My Favorite Writer Sujatha is No More..

My favorite Tamil writer Sujatha is no more.. but his writings will always be..

I have followed Sujatha for over 2 decades and have been fortunate enough to meet him twice (1 2). Each time, I left the wondering how come this guy knows so much stuff..? I wouldn't get another opportunity to meet him as my favorite writer Sujatha he is no more..!!

It was his versatility that first attracted me to him. I still vividly remember his கரையெல்லாம் சென்பகப்பூ (Kariyellam Sengabbpu) in Ananda Vikatan where he mixed science and rustic village background in to a Tamil thirller that I got hooked.

I also remember his கறுப்பு வெளுப்பு சிவப்பு in Kumudam which created a huge backlash from vanniyar community forcing the magazine to abandon the story. But it did reappear later as ரத்தம் ஒரே நிறம் (Rathham Oree Niram) in the same magazine somewhat diluted in its vigor but nevertheless gripping enough.

My Favorite Writer - Sujatha
Yes, my favorite Tamil writer Sujatha is no more.. but I will be reading his writings for long time to come and he will always be my favorite Tamil writer.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time and may god give them the strength to tide over this loss.

Sujatha's Prescription to Reduce Stress

In his latest Katradhum Petradhum in Vikatan, Sujatha talks about neurons and stuff and suggest seven simple ways to reduce stress.

6. Y‚Aó‹ Ƀ°ƒèœ.

7. H®ˆîñ£ù¬î„ ªêŒ»ƒèœ.

C‹Hœ!

My take on this..
All these common sense and makes sense and most would agree with the list. But how does one put all these things in to practice that where the gulf is wide.

1. Take Deep Breath: This kind of has a calming effect and I try to practice it occasionally and could start doing it regularly.
2. Go on Vacation: Sujatha doesn't talk about frequency which is equally important. I get to do this at least once a year.
3. Increase friendship circle: I could do more in this area. Currently, my friendship circle is rather limited, but with ChennaiRunners and blog, I getting to know more people.. so that should help.
4. Exercise without fail: Point taken.. doing it regularly.
5. Eat fruits: I would change this to eat green and healthy. I try to follow this as well but does yield to temptation on a regular basis.
6. Sleep early: Can do better here, but with my current job every day is becoming a Shivrathri night.
7. Do what you like: I find this perhaps the most difficult thing to do. I wish I could but doesn't seem to be always possible. Must improve a lot in this front.

What's your take on this list? Where do you place yourself?

Vasantha Kala Kuttrangal

Vasantha Kala Kutrrangal
Vasantha Kala Kuttrangal by Sujatha - Visa Publications, INR 52

This book must have been written in early 80s and it shows in the narration. The characters don’t use any of the latest technology and rely on what is now considered as the dinosaur age stuff..

As usual, Sujatha’s story telling style is superb and it masks the weakness in the storyline which is very loosely weaved together and unravels fast and quite unexpectedly. Initially, the storyline seem to be dragging but ends rather abruptly.

Read if you have time to kill

Rating: B-
