Anna University (AU) Out of bound for runners at least till May 16, 2014
It's not just the IPL7 that is impacted by the ongoing elections in India. Even ordinary runners are impacted by the restrictions imposed. We generally start our Sunday runs from Anna University and assemble back for 'economy' breakfast. These Sunday runs, give the runners from various part of Chennai an opportunity to connect with each other, network and exchange notes.
Though the voting was over in last Thursday, in Chennai, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are stored in AU under heavy police protection for the appointed counting date which is scheduled to happen on May 16. But, since the EVMs are kept in AU, as a precautionary measure, Police is keeping a tight vigil over AU and have restricted movement inside the campus.
Everyone entering through the main gate were stopped and asked for ID. Only students and people with walkers' pass were allowed inside. While the clampdown was tight at the main gate, there was no vigil at the Kottupuram and AC Tech entrances. One could easily get inside AU via these gates, making a mockery of the clampdown at the main gate.
I couldn't enter AU, so went across to my favorite place to run in Chennai. The inviting roads & greens of IITM offered me solid 10k loop and I even got interact with few students getting for some outbound activity.
Since I didn't plan my run today, I ended up running alone and turned to music for company. So, it was just me, roads and my favorite playlist. I reconnected several of my favorite songs and top of the chart today was this fusion my Nithyashree Mahadevan.
