Little, Brown & Company may have withdrawn Kaavya Viswanathan's controversial book How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life, but it is doing brisk business in Chennai. Not in Landmark, Higgin Bothams or Odyssey, but in the pavement book shops. This and many other popular books are available at fraction of the original price. Needless to say, all these books are pirated and have quite a few spelling mistakes. Look at the pirated cover on the left and compare it to the original cover on the right. Are these errors intentional?
I read first three chapters of this book recently and found it easy reading and some thing light. But the book wasn't gripping or attention grabbing.
Keeping the controversy aside for a minute, I wonder how the young Kaavya is coping with all this mess. First it was glory and then vilification all around and all over the globe. I sure hope Kaavya bounces back from this set back and goes on to bigger and greater things.
