Chennai Craigslist

Some one in the bloggers meet last year was talking about launching a site similar to craigslist for Chennai. Now I am kind of surprised / excited to see Craigslist itself has come to Chennai. I am not sure when they launched the site in Chennai, but it has few listings.

Craigslist is not only in Chennai but also in Bangalore and 150+ cities through out the world. I shouldn't be surprised. I guess, it is completely plausible in a flat world. It's a simple free classifieds concept that started in the Bay Area, now seems to be spreading across the world. For a site with 3 billion page views and 7 million new listings a month, it employs only 19 people. Craigslist is also amazingly is advertisement free and its sole revenue is from the paid job ads.

In this model, there is nothing to prevent craigslist from becoming a global classifieds site. Unless, of course artificial barriers are put up by the affected parties in various countries. What's your take on this?

    I haven't played with Sulekha's classified..

But I listed an item (Creative Zen Jukebox) in Chennai Craiglist and got two mails in the last three days.. both of them were scam mails.. I had listed the item for INR 6000 and this person was willing to offer USD 300 for it.. via some money order scheme.. In fact, Craigslist warned me about these scams..
