Have you played SuDoKu?

SuDoKU

A new number puzzle, SuDoKu is becoming popular in India. It started appearing in many English Indian newspapers. Recently, the venerable newspaper from south The Hindu started carrying it in its city supplement section.

This number puzzle originated from Japan in early 80s and only now, it is spreading across the globe. I understand SuDoKu is popular in US & Europe as well. Have you heard / seen it in your papers?

This puzzle is similar to the crossword puzzle but with numbers. So, for folks like me, who find crossword puzzles intimidating, SuDoKu is easy to play and fun. I have been messing around with this puzzle for a few days now and find it interesting and fun.

The puzzle is very simple “Fill in the grid so that every row, every column, and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1 through 9.”

Try your hand on this one.. Please visit SuDoKu.com for some tips and more info about this new puzzle that is catching on in India.

I will solve this puzzle post the ‘answer’ tomorrow

  1. Sudoku was mentioned in The Economist few weeks. I also read that lot of Indian newspapers are carrying the same alongside their regular crossword sections. Hoping to see how the craze spreads.
